Lucifer’s Gospel

“I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his craftiness,
so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ”
(2 Corinthians 11:3).
What is Lucifer’s Gospel?
Lucifer’s Gospel is a product of a Culture that claims to be shocked at its very existence: an ecclesial Community represented by the editors of Christianity Today and the producers at TBN, who live in a world full of Christian Celluloid and CD bandits hustling toothpaste and hair oil. This is a Citizenry, who are no longer capable of confronting the real thing. For years they have sat with their children and watched the world go by from the glow of their TV screens . . . and now they’re bringing up children, who think Paul of Tarsus is a DVD character. This is a generation that went to war for God, Mom, Apple Pie and the American Way of Life. When they came back, they retired to the giddy comfort of their TV parlors, to cultivate the subtleties of Christian history as seen by Hollywood.
To them the appearance of Lucifer’s Gospel must seem like a publicity stunt. In a nation of frightened dullards there is a sorry shortage of bona fide Christian Lionhearts, and those few who make the grade are always welcomed in any age: RC Sproul, John MacArthur, Jonathan Edwards, John Owen, Charles H. Spurgeon, Charles Hodge, A. W. Pink, John Calvin . . . they have that extra “Something” - the Holy Spirit of God proclaiming the true Gospel of Christ Jesus.
The Apostle Paul referred to Lucifer’s Gospel in his letter to the Galatian Church, “I marvel that you are so soon removed from Him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: which is not another, but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the Gospel of Christ” (Galatian 1:6,7). Then he continues, “But though we, or an angel from heaven preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.”
In 2 Corinthians 11, Paul addressed himself to the false apostles and prophets of Lucifer’s Gospel, who come into the body of Christ and preach, what Paul refers to as “another Jesus” - the word another, is the Greek word, alas; meaning: another of the same kind (Our English word alias is also drawn from the same Greek word.) - “another Jesus,” who looks and acts like the Jesus we’ve heard about, but he’s not the same Jesus at all. He doesn’t have the same Reliable Qualities as the Jesus we know from our Bible - he’s another Jesus of the same kind. An alias savior. A Jesus who seems compassionate, loving, and redemptive; everything the people of God know the real Jesus to be, but when we are exposed to this other Jesus, we experience Another Gospel of a different kind: a false gospel - a gospel of regulations and requirements jumbled up with grace. By accepting this message, we thereby receive Another spirit of a different kind, which carries the Church away from God-loving to people-loving. Jesus did not preach, “Embrace love and thereby redeem the world.” Jesus preached, “Embrace Me and forsake the world!”
Lucifer’s Gospel is not a system of revolutionary principles, or a program of anarchy. It does not promote strife and war, but rather it aims at Peace and Unity. It does not seek to set the mother against her daughter, nor the father against his son, but fosters the Fraternal spirit whereby the human race is regarded as one great “Brotherhood”. It never seeks to drag down the natural man, but to improve and uplift him.
Lucifer’s Gospel advocates education and cultivation and appeals to “the best that is within us all”. It aims to make this world such a Congenial and Comfortable habitat that Christ’s absence from it will not be felt and God will not be needed. It endeavors to occupy man so much with this world that he has no time or inclination to think of the World To Come. It propagates the principles of self-sacrifice, charity and benevolence, and teaches us to live for the good of others, and to be kind to all. It appeals strongly to the carnal mind and is popular with the masses . . . Lucifer’s Gospel nullifies the Death of Christ!
In contrast to the Gospel of Christ, Lucifer’s Gospel teaches salvation by works. It inculcates justification before God on the ground of Human merits. Its Sacramental phrase is “Be good and do good” . . . it announces salvation by Character, which reverses the order of God’s Word, as distinctive by, as the fruit of, salvation. Its various ramifications and organizations are manifold. The Emerging Church phenomenon, Signs and Wonders movements, Prosperity theology, Christian Socialist Leagues, Peace through Unity Congresses are all employed (maybe unconsciously) in proclaiming Lucifer’s Gospel: Salvation By Works. The pledge-card is substituted for Christ; social purity for individual regeneration, and politics and philosophy for doctrine and godliness. The Cultivation of the old man is considered “more practical” than the creation of a new man in Christ Jesus; while universal peace is looked for apart from the interposition and return of the Prince of Peace.
The apostles of Lucifer’s Gospel minimize sin by declaring that sin is merely ignorance or the absence of good . . . thus making God a liar by declaring that He is too loving and too merciful to send any of His own creatures to Eternal Torment. Lucifer’s Gospel preachers hold up Christ as the great Examplar and exhort their followers to “follow in His steps.” Their message may sound very plausible and their actions appear very praiseworthy . . . Lucifer himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers are also transformed as the ministers of righteousness, whose end shall be according to their works.
The Essence which lurks behind the preachers of Lucifer’s Gospel is their concern for freedom, merit, and good works in human pride - a desire to have something to offer God that will blunt the enormity of our need for Grace.
Today hundreds of churches are without Leaders, who faithfully declare the whole counsel of God and present His way of Salvation; and the majority of people in these Churches are very unlikely to learn the Truth for themselves. The Bible is not expounded in the pulpit and it is not read in the pew. The demands of this hubbub age are so numerous that the multitudes have little time and still less inclination to make preparation for their meeting with God. Hence the majority who are too indolent to search for themselves are left at the mercy of those whom they pay to search for them; many of which betray their trust by studying and expounding economic and social problems rather than the Oracles of God . . .
Thousands are deceived into supposing that they have “accepted Christ as their personal Saviour,” who have not first received Him as their LORD. The Son of God did not come here to save people in their sins, but “From Their Sins” (Matthew 1:21). To be saved from sins, is to be Saved from ignoring and despising the authority of God, it is to abandon the course of self-will and self-pleasing, it is to “forsake our way” (Isaiah 55:7). It is to surrender to God’s authority, to yield to His dominion, to give ourselves over to be ruled by Him. The one who has never taken Christ’s “yoke” upon him, who is not truly and diligently seeking to please Him in all the details of his life, and yet supposes that he is “resting on the Finished Work of Christ,” is deluded by the Gospel of Lucifer himself - and will pay the price in the World To Come.
